Installing IPAD into your Car (2011 Shelby Mustang)

Hello Everyone,

I was talking to alot of my friends about my experience with installing the IPAD2 in my 2011 Mustang Shelby.

When I purchased the car I didn't think about having a navigation or screen in the car for visual controls but soon after I drove the car around town I started to realize that I wanted something visually on the screen (i.e. Navigation).

I purchased the ipad 1 for the wife and then the Ipad2 because is had a built in camera.

I suddently realize that after looking at several navigation systems from my car that I had all I needed in the Ipad.

So I came up with a list of items I wanted with this install:

1. IPad Charging - With all the new devices out there in the market you have to always pay attention to when your device is charging because a battery will wear down quickly if you continue to charge the device.  I wanted a switch to turn off the charging.
2. Internet access - I purchased the IPAD2 with 3g but I haven't activated it yet.  I wanted to have the flexibility but also the most reliable access.  My current choice is the verizon mifi.  The only issue is it will only last 2 hours on a single charge but it has the most reliable internet access at the moment.  At least in my opinion.
3. Charging other device - I wanted a inverter in the car so I can charge my internet hot spot (mifi) so if I am in the car longer than 2 hours or my device is not fully charged I am not stuck without internet access.
4. Volume Control - When you install the ipad in the car you need to have something to control the volume because most installs will hide the side of the ipad where the volume control is located.

So here is what I installed so far:

1. IPAD docking station - First I had the IPAD installed vertically because my car did not have the room in the dash without making serious cuts in my dash.  If you have a bigger car than my mustang then I would suggest installing the ipad horizonally.

2. BitOne - I installed a BITOne which is a big EQ.  This provided the volume control I need plus it helped enhance the sound.

3. Control Power Switch - I also installed a controlled switch that allowed me to keep playing my music but turn off the power to the IPAD so it isn't charging.

4. Inverter - I installed an inverter and mounted under my seat.

5. Amp's / Subwoofers - I installed a couple of AMP's and Sub's (all JL audio) to boost the sound.

That is it.  I will post some pictures and possibly some video's in the next couple of days.
